Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Alberto Guzman was inspired and deeply influenced by a beautiful and chic Latina make-up artist - his mother. As a child, he would carefully watch his mother coif herself for her daily life or a special occasion and came to the realization that hair and make-up are transforming. His fascination soon became a passion, which lead him out of Puerto Rico and straight to New York City. At age 21, Guzman enrolled in school and the rest is history.
Guzman began his extensive career as a hair stylist in 1985, working with some of the most prestigious stylists known today including: rock-star hair stylists John Sahag, mainstay Jean Louis David, John Frieda and celebrity favorite Bumble and Bumble.
His career and style have blossomed and morphed as is the case with all great artists. This is in direct correlation to the fact that Alberto Guzman is constantly looking for inspiration and rarely finds it from mundane, branded or expected sources. He is inspired by the work of visionary stylists such as Orlando Pita, Oribe and Eugene Souleiman. Describing himself, he defines his technique as modern, avant-garde, a little bit old-school and a little bit rock n roll.
Guzman's particular brand of style and his creative range are the reasons he attracts such a unique and diverse clientele. Throughout his career, he has maintained a strong celebrity following including such luminaries as: Bridget Moynahan, Gina Gershon, Pink, Jessie James Decker, Christina Aguilera, Julia Roberts, Gwyneth Paltrow, Carolina Herrera and Eva Longoria to name a few. Guzman is also a favorite "go-to" stylist at high-fashion publications including Vogue, W, Harpers Bazaar and Glamour. His styling talents have been utilized by many well-known businesses including Jonathan Adler, Avon, Ebay, Lord & Taylor, Banana Republic, Bloomingdales, Bergdorf Goodman, and L'Oreal.
